Why Us

Six Reasons People Stay

01

Paid on Time

Salaries land on the same date every month. It has never been otherwise since 2007.

02

Learn the Trade

Timber, steel, stone, coatings, engines — you leave here knowing a real trade, not just a job title.

03

Promote from Within

Counter staff have become branch leads. Mechanics have become service managers. The ladder is real.

04

Family-Run, Not Faceless

Three companies, one family, one highway. The people who decide are the people you see.

05

Proper Tools

Real workshops, real safety wear, real equipment. We do not ask anyone to improvise.

06

A Name That Travels

Eighteen years of trading in Banjul. J Balaji on your CV opens doors across The Gambia.

What You Get

Eight Things We Actually Provide

Not perks in a brochure — the eight things every person on this payroll can count on.

01

Monthly Salary, On the Date

Paid on the same day every month. That has not moved since 2007.

02

Written Contract

A proper contract, a job description and a payslip — from day one, for every role.

03

Paid Leave

Annual leave, public holidays and compassionate leave, recorded and honoured.

04

Tools & Safety Wear

Workshop tools, hi-vis, helmets, gloves and masks are supplied, not deducted.

05

Staff Purchase Terms

Furniture, doors, roofing and hardware at staff rates for your own home.

06

Training on the Job

You learn the trade beside people who have done it for a decade or more.

07

Overtime Recognised

Late loads and Saturday deliveries are logged and compensated.

08

A Reference That Counts

Eighteen years of trading in Banjul. The name is known here.

Where It Leads

The Ladder Is Real

Counter staff have become floor leads. Apprentices have become supervisors. Here is the route in four departments.

Counter Sales
  1. Sales Executive
  2. Senior Sales
  3. Branch / Floor Lead

Learn the range, build a trade book, then run a counter and the people on it.

Workshop
  1. Apprentice Mechanic
  2. Mechanic
  3. Service Supervisor

Start on servicing, move to diagnostics and rebuilds, then run the bay and the job cards.

Stores
  1. Store Assistant
  2. Stock Controller
  3. Warehouse Manager

Learn what moves and what does not, then own the layout, the rota and the accuracy.

Accounts
  1. Accounts Assistant
  2. Accountant
  3. Finance Lead

Post the ledgers, own the reconciliations, then close the month for three companies.

How You Learn

Nobody Is Left To Guess

The first three months are structured. After that the suppliers themselves train you on every new line that lands.

  1. Week One

    Induction

You walk all three sites, meet every counter, and learn what the group actually sells before you sell any of it.

  2. Month One

    Beside Someone

You are paired with someone who has done the job for years. Nobody is left to guess.

  3. Month Three

    On Your Own Feet

You handle your own customers, your own job cards or your own ledger, with a supervisor to check.

  4. Ongoing

    Supplier Training

Piaggio, Hiroshima and our paint principals train our staff on new lines as they land.

The Process

Four Steps to Your First Day

  1. 01

    Apply

Email your CV and certificates, or send them on WhatsApp. Name the role you want.

  2. 02

    Shortlist

We read every application and come back to shortlisted candidates within two weeks.

  3. 03

    Meet & Test

An interview at Jimpex. Trade roles include a practical test in the workshop or the yard.

  4. 04

    Offer & Start

A written offer, a contract, and an induction with the team you will be working alongside.

The Working Day

From 07:30 to Close

Whichever role you take, the day runs to this rhythm. It is worth knowing before you apply.

  5. 15:00 Workshop handovers Serviced three-wheelers go back to their owners with the job card explained.

Our Hiring Promise

Four Things You Can Hold Us To

Job scams are common. These four lines are how you tell a real J Balaji vacancy from someone using our name.

We Never Charge a Fee

Not for an application, not for an interview, not for a job. Anyone asking you for money in our name does not work for us.

Open to Every Applicant

Every role here is open to any person who can do the work — women included, and we say so because it gets asked.

We Answer Shortlisted Applicants

If you make the shortlist you will hear from us within two weeks, either way.

Your CV Stays With Us

We do not pass your details to anyone outside the group, and speculative CVs stay on file for future openings.

Questions

Before You Apply

A CV, a short covering note saying which role you are applying for, and copies of your certificates. If you are applying for a trade role, tell us what you have worked on and for how long.

Yes. We keep speculative CVs on file and go to them first when a vacancy opens. Send yours to contactus@jbalaji.com and say which division interests you.

We normally come back to shortlisted candidates within two weeks. Trade roles include a practical test in the workshop or yard.

We do, in the workshop, the stores and the accounts office. Write to us with your institution and the period of attachment.

All current roles are in the Greater Banjul Area — mainly Mamadi Manjang Highway, Kanifing Jimpex, with some time at the Kanifing Industrial Area yard.

Not for most roles. Sales and the automobile GM post do expect a valid driving licence, and it helps everywhere else.

Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 19:00 for the counters, with an earlier start in the yard. Sundays and public holidays are off.

Yes. Every role advertised here is open to any applicant who can do the job, and we say so plainly because it is asked.
